Congrats on taking the first steps towards your education goals. Have you received your approval email from Guild? If not, don’t worry, you should receive an email within seven days of submitting your Guild application.

If you have received your Guild approval email, double congratulations! Here are your next steps for becoming a Guild student at University of Minnesota Crookston:


1 — Make sure you’re eligible

Check to make sure you're eligible for your company's education benefit, right up to the first day of of your courses. Go to the Guild home page and check your eligibility status in the upper right-hand corner. For more information about eligibility, contact Guild support.

2 — Submit Your University of Minnesota Crookston Application

Within a week after submitting your Guild application, you will receive an email from University of Minnesota Crookston with a personalized link on how to apply into your chosen program. Be sure to choose the same learning program on your University of Minnesota Crookston application that you selected on the Guild application, or you may have to pay for the program on your own.

Please also be sure to use the same name, email address, and other personal information you used on your Guild application when completing the University of Minnesota Crookston application. Using different information may result in delays for your start at University of Minnesota Crookston.

You may be required to write a statement of interest for your University of Minnesota Crookston, so remember to get started on the application in advance of any deadlines. In addition, you may be required to speak with an Admissions Counselor at University of Minnesota Crookston. Make sure to read the email completely to understand what is required for your application.

3 — Start Your FAFSA

Gather important documents and complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. Use the University of Minnesota Crookston code 004069. Follow the detailed instructions provided by the Federal Student Aid office. When you're finished, you may be offered awards which you can accept or decline.

Per the Employer’s policy, each student enrolling in a program that is eligible for federal financial aid may be required to complete one or more of the following items before initial program enrollment and annually thereafter: FAFSA, financial aid packaging / awarding process, accept any grant aid awarded. If any grants are accepted they will be applied to tuition and mandatory fees before employer payment. If you have questions regarding your Employer education benefit policy, please consult Guild support. If you have questions about financial aid, please contact your learning provider's financial aid office. 

4 — Send Your Transcripts to University of Minnesota Crookston

The easiest way to do this is to have your previous schools send transcripts directly to the University of Minnesota Crookston. You can also use a third-party service like Parchment. If you do receive transcripts, make sure you don’t open them. If you do, the University of Minnesota Crookston can no longer use them, even if they’re emailed.

If you have previous education outside of the U.S. (i.e., foreign credentials), there are extra requirements to complete to enroll at University of Minnesota Crookston.

  • A course-by-course evaluation of your transcripts by a NACES member agency is required. The evaluation must be sent directly to University of Minnesota Crookston from the credential agency. Please review their policy for international transcripts:

  • An English translation of your non-English transcripts is required. Both the original transcript (in original language) and a certified English translation of the transcript must be sent to University of Minnesota Crookston.

  • An English proficiency exam with a minimum score may be required.

  • Confirm requirements with University of Minnesota Crookston's Admissions Department before paying out of pocket for an evaluation, translation, and/or exam.

5 — Confirm Acceptance & Intent to Enroll at University of Minnesota Crookston

Once you receive a decision letter from University of Minnesota Crookston, follow the instructions provided and be sure to take the appropriate steps to confirm your acceptance at University of Minnesota Crookston and your intent to enroll into their program.

6 — Connect with Your University of Minnesota Crookston Academic Advisor & Register for Courses

Schedule a meeting with your University of Minnesota Crookston academic advisor to get ready for starting your program. Your academic advisor is available to help you register for courses (if applicable), support you in your University of Minnesota Crookston program, discuss course-related questions, and share resources available to you at University of Minnesota Crookston.

7 — Complete Your University of Minnesota Crookston Orientation Process

Make sure to take time to complete the University of Minnesota Crookston orientation process to learn more details about your program, expectations, and keys to your academic success!

It is MANDATORY that you complete the Introduction to Online Learning course, which orients students to UMN Crookston's online learning platform, systems, and general processes.

8 — Buy Your Books & Materials

Buy books and other materials for your courses. Check the syllabus for each course to find out what you need, and be sure to keep your receipts - you may need them for returns or reimbursements.

9 — Log Into Your Courses & Participate During the First Week

Make sure you log into your courses and continue participating beyond the Add/Drop period in order to stay enrolled in your program at University of Minnesota Crookston. Failure to do so may result in you being automatically dropped from the program or prevent you from continuing.

10 — Chat with Your Guild Growth Coach for Support

Once you’ve started your courses, you’ll have a chance to talk with your Guild Growth Coach. This is the time to discuss your education and career aspirations, ask questions, and set goals for completing your program at University of Minnesota Crookston.

11 — Complete Your Coursework at University of Minnesota Crookston

Your Guild support network, along with your University of Minnesota Crookston support team, will be there to offer guidance and support throughout your program.
